Call for Resource Persons: Sustainable Tourism for Archaeological and Heritage Sites in Southeast Asia

The SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SEAMEO SPAFA) is looking for suitable resource persons to participate in a workshop on Sustainable Tourism for Archaeological and Heritage Sites in Southeast Asia to be held in November 2017. Resource persons will be invited to talk about successful case studies or best practices related to tourism and the management of archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Topics can include:

  • Examples of successful tourism management initiatives in archaeological, cultural or heritage sites
  • Innovative tourism products
  • Respecting local values
  • Interpretation centres
  • Ways of facilitating accessibility
  • Tourist education
  • Development and management of tourism trails
  • Flow and crowd management
  • Trends in cultural/archaeological tourism in Southeast Asia
  • Community engagement and tourism

Resource persons should be based in Southeast Asia, and working in an archaeological or heritage site in the region and is familiar with tourism issues on the ground level. They will be required to give a 30-minute presentation and write a short (1,000 – 2,000 words approx.) paper. Interested persons should propose a topic title and send a 100-200 word abstract to Dr Noel Tan (noel@seameo-spafa.org) by 18 June 2017.
